Last Saturday we had our February Fun Day! With moving at the end of the month we thought the earlier in the month we do it the better, so we made use of our time up in Minnesota last weekend and went to the Mall of America. I hadn't been there is years!! Like probably 10 years! We invited my parents to come with us so they joined us for the day.
We started off at the Sea Life Aquarium at the mall. I had never been here so it was neat to see what it was all about. I thought it was pretty neat and I think Elsie did too but at times she was more interested in pushing her stroller than seeing the animals. The aquarium opened at 9:30 and I wanted to get there are close to opening as possible because I figured it would get really busy because it was a Saturday and I was right. It was pretty quiet when we first got there and when we were leaving there was a lot more people there.
Checking out the Rays from the above.
She wasn't sure what to think about the touch pools. She would put her hands in the water but was very hesitant to touch any of the animals
Jelly fish
I thought the seahorses was neat
The we finally made it into the tunnel. This was a really neat display and the fish and sharks swim all around you. I do think Elsie enjoyed this part of the visit the most.
After the aquarium we made our way over to Rain Forest Cafe. It was just a few minutes before 11:00 and they didn't open until then. As we walked over we there was a little dance performance by the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders taking place in the Rotunda. The big event at the mall that particular day was heart health awareness so there was a lot of information from the American Heart Association and there was a Red Dress Fashion Show. We didn't stay for that but Elsie enjoyed watching the cheerleaders dance.
Walking through the mall with Grandma and Grandpa
Elsie with the Red Heart from the American Heart Association. She was the one that actually wanted to go and check it out which is a shock. She normally is pretty hesistant when it comes to characters like this.
Waiting for the restaurant to open and get seated. I am so glad we got there when we did. We were second in line to get seated and not soon after the whole places was packed.
We asked to be seated at a table right by the fish tank. She loved the fish and she loved when the Gorillas would "wake up". She would jump down from her seat and run over to them.
Grandma wearing Elsie's frog crown.
Although the food was not spectacular and overpriced, the setting was perfect for a child which is why we chose to eat here. The Gorillas, fish, music, and thunderstorms make it a perfect place to keep Elsie entertained.
After lunch we made our way to Nickelodeon Universe. Elsie has been really into Dora so I thought she would have fun seeing her here and there throughout the park. I also wasn't sure how she would react to the rides and I was a little nervous she would get scared or not want to go on rides. We chose to buy points vs. buying a wristband for her. I was pleasantly surprised how may rides she could go on as long as she had an adult chaperone. She is right at 36" so she could have done some of the rides alone but I didn't want to just put her on a ride without someone else so either John or I would accompany her on the rides so i figured I should get 30 points since there would be at least two of us per ride. Well, after I bought the points I discovered that if a parent was riding as a chaperone they didn't have to use any points! That is so awesome! Every other place we had been to you have to buy tickets for both the adult and the child.
Our first stop was the Carousel. I knew this was a safe choice because she has really enjoyed this ride in the past. There were so many animals to choose from and while waiting she kept saying she wanted the white bunny. Thankfully, she got her wish.
After the carousel, Elsie and John went on the little bus that goes up pretty high in the air. I was kind of nervous for her but she was fearless :)
Waiting patiently in line for the little roller coaster.
This was another ride where Elsie was pretty insistent on which color she wanted to ride in. The options were either pink or blue. She wanted pink. I looked ahead at the number of people ahead of us and we were going to be the fifth out of six that were to be on the next ride and there were only three pink dogs.
As we were leaving, we tried to get Elsie to take a picture with Dora. She was being so weird. She would not sit or stand in front of Dora. So this is the best we could get :) Elsie kept wanting to climb behind her. Oh well, maybe next time.
To end our fun day we also went and visited our good friends Randi and Joey, little girl Taylor and their new little baby Clara. She was so adorable and I completely forget how little new little babies are. It was so nice to catch up and to finally meet that sweet little girl.
